Even in the age of the content oriented search engine algorithm, a well rounded set of keywords will help a lot. So often, this never gets done on new websites.</p>
<p>Similar to meta descriptions, meta keywords are another meta tag recognized by the search engines. Instead of sentences, meta keywords are merely a listing of the important keywords for a page. Ideally, words and phrases listed in the meta keywords should also appear multiple times in the text content of that page. This particular meta tag has been extremely abused by optimizers stuffing hundreds and even thousands of words into the tag, whether relevant to</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>the text content of the page or not. Because of this, search engines do not grant this tag much weight anymore, if any, in ranking the page. However, they do still read the tag as text and it is helpful if the content of the keyword meta tag and the content on the page are closely related. Google seems to ignore this tag, however there is some evidence that Yahoo and other smaller search engines pay a bit of attention to it.</p>
<p>So, let&#8217;s take a look at how SEO Consulting Groups make use of meta keywords:</p>
<p>I recommend that the total number of meta keywords be two or three keywords or key phrases per page, separated by commas and spaces. • More is not necessarily better. The more disparate the keywords, the lower the potential page ranking. Don&#8217;t water down your most important keywords by including less important ones with it. • Use keyword phrases that are also used in the copy of the page, the title tag, meta description, and other tags. If a key phrase is not mentioned anywhere on the page, it should not be included as a meta keyword. Remember relevance! • Don&#8217;t forget plurals, assuming people are searching both variations. For example, include both &#8220;Donut&#8221; and &#8220;Donuts&#8221; in the keyword meta tag to make sure a page about Donuts shows up in both searches. • If there is a common misspelling or version of a popular keyword that might be used to find the website, it should be included in the keyword meta tag. For example, if a lot of users have typed “Doughnuts” than three times.</p>
<p>• If the website is targeting users in a specific geographic location, be sure to include the location in the keyword meta tag as well as in the text content of the page. Example: &#8220;Keyword, Keyword, Keyword, Sydney, Australia&#8221;</p>

<p>Headings are read by search engine robots as &#8220;important text&#8221; to help identify the quality information contained on a website. When you look at the HTML code, these headings are identified with &lt;h1&gt;YOUR IMPORTANT TEXT HERE&lt;/h1&gt; style identifiers.  Headings can be from H1 to H6 in importance.  Interestingly enough, most website writers and so called content specialists never use beyond the H1 main tag.  What a waste.</p>
<p>Every website page should have at least an H1 Heading Tag.  It really also needs to have keywords in it, that correspond to the meta tags and keywords of the website. If you can list them first in the tag, so much the better.</p>
<p>Allow the H2 through H6 tags to help you summarize the content of the webpage. This is not unlike the way a good outline of the page would be built.  In fact, it is a good way to think about the whole construct.</p>
<p>By the time you have <a href="http://celticozarksolutions.com" target="_blank">added some good content to your page,</a> which is like to define as no m ore than 1000 words on average, the page should be ready. Again, the heading tags should guide the reader through the content in outline fashion.</p>

<p>Here is the simple reason behind that philosophy:  if you list your Page title as, SEO Experts, then you will be competing against all the companies in the world that use that same keyword phrase in their title. So, if you want to be the number one organic listing, you had better be pretty darn popular.</p>
<p>Adding a location, like we do in <a title="SEO Firms Have to Deal with Google’s 2011 Algorithm Change" href="http://seoexpertsaustralia.wordpress.com/2011/04/23/seo-firms-have-to-deal-with-googles-2011-algorithm-change/" target="_blank">SEO Experts Australia</a>, it helps to set a more geographic location to your work.  It definitely helps us find customers in our little part of the world. That is not to say, though, that we don&#8217;t still find customers from around the world. It is just a tactic to help us touch the most customers at home first.</p>
<p>Here are some simple ideas on how to use location like a quality seo consulting firm:</p>
<p>1. Don&#8217;t list more then one location in any given title.  Keep it simple.</p>
<p>2. Don&#8217;t use more than one city in a title also.</p>
<p>3. List your most important location in the home page title, as this is where the biggest bang will come from in the beginning.</p>
<p>One day, your firm may get large enough to compete against the giants in your industry, In the meantime, appeal to the people in your part of the world first.</p>

<p>Now, Page Rank may not be the best thing to consider, when looking for links for your website.  Content is now very important.  If you website has lot of backlinks, like a so called web farm, there may not be much value in adding it to your website, as the website is essentially nothing but web links.</p>
<p>The better links for outbound purposes come from quality content sites, blogs that are popular for your topic, and sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, etc., that are designed to help people find quality content.  Those are the type of sites you need to add for outbound links.</p>
<p>If you want to be in a pure link farm type directory listing, I recommend using someone like a Yellow Pages.com, where people will be expecting to get links to needed information and services. Otherwise, make good choices about links to PR Rated sites.</p>

<h2>LESS EMPHASIS ON THE HTML TITLE</h2>
<p>The titles of your web pages will be getting less emphasis than in the past.  With some new snippet technology going into place, Google may use some of the content is takes for your website, and use that in the overall title for searches.  This may be done because Google may think it can come up with a better title for the content.  It will be more important than ever to keep titles relevant to the content. Here is the piece from the Google blog:</p>
<p><em><strong>&#8220;Snippets with more page content and less header/menu content: </strong>This change helps us choose more relevant text to use in snippets. As we improve our understanding of web page structure, we are now more likely to pick text from the actual page content, and less likely to use text that is part of a header or menu.&#8221; Taken from Google Blog.</em></p>
<p>So, keyword cramming in titles will need to give away to relevant content.  I still think you need to keep keywords in your titles. Just make sure your titles accurately summarize the material, less Google change your imformation.</p>

Over time, various software technologies have made it easy to capture images from the web.  So, it easy easy to find examples of unique images that are links to sites all over the web.</p>
<p>In time, the major search engines are going to give less credit for search engine optimization links in these images, if they are not unique. One of the easiest things to do is contract with a graphics designer to get you new images every so often. One of my favorite places to find this type of help is Elance.com. (Not a plug for them, just a good place to get help).</p>
<p>Another option is to take your own pictures. Those type of relevant images will get credit in search, when you link your website or add keywords into the description and name of the image.</p>
<p>So, break out the digital camera. Better yet, carry your iPhone or Android with you everywhere.</p>

We discussed how important good content is to overall search engine optimization. This week, I want to talk about how an SEO Expert uses SEO importance to help balance the whole equation.</p>
<p>By SEO importance, we mean how important is your website in the mind of the public? Another way to phrase the question is: &#8220;how popular is your website?&#8221;</p>
<p>It takes both concepts to make a website work in today&#8217;s world. An SEO Expert today, then, has quite the challenging job.  However, there are some metrics that can be used to help with analysis of the popularity of a website.</p>
<p>In days past, &#8220;Page Rank&#8221; was considered the utmost qualifier of good. That is simply not the case anymore. Now, the search engines use a more subjective popularity factor in their rankings. In order to battle this issue, many people turn to so-called link farms to help them get better ratings. In today&#8217;s world, link farms can still get a good rating, if they keep good content on their site also. An example of that is the online yellow pages. The problem is, the backlink credit does not happen any more for link farms. It may help the yellow pages, but may not help you.</p>
<p>For better links, you need academic sources, and trusted high quality content sites to link to you. If a good <a href="http://seoexpertsaustralia.com.au" target="_blank">SEO Expert </a>with a high ranking site links to this article, for example, I will get better credit. A link farm of good SEO sites just wont help, because the sole purpose of the site is to give people lots of links to other websites. You have to think balance.</p>
<p>In today&#8217;s world, Alexa offers the average SEO Joe a good way to rate popularity. Signing up your website for an Alexa ranking will give you a metric to use. The lower your Alexa Score, the more popular your site is. It can give an SEO Expert a metric to use to test popularity.
