They are a wonderful list of basic things that you can do to get the links right from the git go. So, here we go.

• Don’t accept links from someone who has 100 or more links to the same place. Google wont give you any credit for it.
• Only link we the best of the people in your industry. No companies that are questionable in any sense.
• Pay attention to who is linking to your competition.
• Go to Yahoo and type “link: yourwebsite.com” and see who is linking to you.
• Join Social websites and share info about your business there with links to your website.
• Pay attention to good reviews on Yelp.com for your business. Link to them.
• Don’t feel obligated to link back to others, just because they have linked to you.
• Google PR of 3 or better before you link to a website.

So why do people still do this?  Obviously if it is covert enough, it can still provide an effective way to get links from really good sources.  If the plan for buying links was ineffective, then the Google folks would probably ignore the practice.  The sad truth is that it does work.

The bigger issue, though is trying to find a right way to do a wrong thing.  Most of the companies that sell backlinks on the Internet are just scams.  And Google is pretty good and figuring out the paid link trail across its system.  That is why legitimate SEO Firms do not buy links.

What is the nature of SEO?

Another way to put this might be, how are static style websites and blog websites different?  An SEO Expert will do diffrent things for both.

3. If you get some really popular social junkies to your blog, you can quickly end up with thousands for readership.  I call that the viral effect. In addition, lots of bloggers read blogs, so you can get extra traffic when someone does a pingback from you to them.
4. Optimizing a blog site for an SEO Expert is more about getting attention and getting credit for spreading ideas than it is about optimizing page copy to match the current Google algorithm for what is considered relevant for that topic.

Where to Use Keywords in Your Page Content

The first SEO Expert recommendation on adding keywords to you page content would be to add them  in your page title. If you can make them the first words used in the title, so much the better.

Similar to meta descriptions, meta keywords are another meta tag recognized by the search engines. Instead of sentences, meta keywords are merely a listing of the important keywords for a page. Ideally, words and phrases listed in the meta keywords should also appear multiple times in the text content of that page. This particular meta tag has been extremely abused by optimizers stuffing hundreds and even thousands of words into the tag, whether relevant to

the text content of the page or not. Because of this, search engines do not grant this tag much weight anymore, if any, in ranking the page. However, they do still read the tag as text and it is helpful if the content of the keyword meta tag and the content on the page are closely related. Google seems to ignore this tag, however there is some evidence that Yahoo and other smaller search engines pay a bit of attention to it.

So, let’s take a look at how SEO Consulting Groups make use of meta keywords:

I recommend that the total number of meta keywords be two or three keywords or key phrases per page, separated by commas and spaces. • More is not necessarily better. The more disparate the keywords, the lower the potential page ranking. So, what is  a meta description? Meta descriptions are short descriptions of the subject matter on a web page located in the <head> section to help the search engines understand the content. Meta tag descriptions are an additional chance to tell the search engine what the page is all about. A targeted meta description can improve a website’s visibility.

Search engines often use the meta description as the text they display in the search results. The more relevant the description, the better the ranking the site will get for a specific keyword or phrase.

So, let’s consider some basic rules for the use of meta descriptions:

• The meta description tag should not exceed 150 characters including spaces. • Meta descriptions should typically be one to two sentences in length. • Make sure the description is accurate and also entices human visitors. • Include two to three of the most important keyword phrases, especially those used in the page title and the page’s actual text content. • Try to position the most important keywords near the beginning of the description. • Make sure the description makes sense to users since it may be displayed to thousands of potential customers in the search results – be relevant but be compelling!

ISO (or image search optimization) is the buzz word in the industry for optimizing images for the search engines. It is the process of organizing the content of a website to increase relevance to a specific keyword on image search engines. Like search engine optimization, the aim is to achieve higher organic search engine results and increase ranking on the search. So, what we look for are ways to add keywords into image files, to help them get noticed under specific keywords.

Here are some simple things you can do to help your images get more traffic to your website:

1. Add your company name and keywords to the name of the image when appropriate. Don’t leave the name of the image as something like 2011-12-12314.  (How Boring and useless.)
2. Words in the actual graphics cannot be read by the search engines. That just helps the human eye.
3. Use the alt attribute whenever possible to add description to your images.
4. Make sure your images are relevant to your website’s overall theme.  Pretty pink flowers don’t do much, on a website, that is designed to sell survival equipment. It goes without saying.

Headings are read by search engine robots as “important text” to help identify the quality information contained on a website. When you look at the HTML code, these headings are identified with <h1>YOUR IMPORTANT TEXT HERE</h1> style identifiers.  Headings can be from H1 to H6 in importance.  Interestingly enough, most website writers and so called content specialists never use beyond the H1 main tag.  What a waste.

Every website page should have at least an H1 Heading Tag.  It really also needs to have keywords in it, that correspond to the meta tags and keywords of the website. If you can list them first in the tag, so much the better.

Allow the H2 through H6 tags to help you summarize the content of the webpage. This is not unlike the way a good outline of the page would be built.  In fact, it is a good way to think about the whole construct.

By the time you have added some good content to your page, which is like to define as no m ore than 1000 words on average, the page should be ready. Again, the heading tags should guide the reader through the content in outline fashion.
